Any company/organization in this world runs with some resources and it will be successful, if these resources are managed well. There are in all, ten Chapters in the book, covering, The concept of human resource management, Performance management strategies, Legal and regulatory compliance, Organizational development in HRM, Conflict management, Payroll and compensation, Concept of IT in HRM, IT platforms: HRM v/s HRIS v/s HCM, Health and safety development and People development. Towards the end of the book, 35 references have been provided. After a study of this book, one is expected to understand the functions of HRM in the organization, responsibilities of HR Manager, management of employees, team relationships and customer relationships and learn various tools and strategies to help in overall management of the organization.

 

Chapter 1 of the book discusses the evolution, theories & basic functions of HRM, approaches to HRM and challenges faced by HRM, duties and responsibilities of HR Manager. Chapter 3 is important due to legal implications involved. It deals with importance of legal compliance, implications of defaulting and roles of HRM in legal compliance. A very important aspect is Conflict management. Taken up in Chapter 5, it deals with classification of, approaches to and causative factors of Conflict, along with its resolution practices. Chapter 7 discusses IT applications and challenges faced by IT in HRM. Chapter 9 takes up another important aspect of  discussing roles of HRM in safety development and strategies for promoting health and safety of employees. The last Chapter 10 discusses the very important topic of People development, consisting of professional training, coaching and mentoring, staffing, development, promotions and rewards etc.

 

The book offers a sound knowledge base in HRM, for application in actual profession and also for obtaining advanced knowledge in each topic. It is a clear and powerful guide and provides an overview of the multifaceted role of the HR within an organization. The language is also easy to understand. The approach to the topics is simple, making it pleasing for readers to read and comprehend. Brief details of the book have been provided on the back cover page. Printing is good and appears to be free of errors. The quality of paper used for the book is very good. Amongst the other good points of the book are, providing at the beginning of each Chapter, what the readers are expected to read and learn in that particular Chapter, providing Chapter summary & Quiz, at the end of each Chapter. In each of the quizzes, five questions for critical areas are given along with the options, and the readers are motivated to seek their answers on their own and in case of difficulty get the answers on web site, whose link has been provided. Quizzes are helpful in understanding the topic. In all, there are 13 Figures in the book, which are spread over all the Chapters, except Chapter No. 4 and 7. Number of pages in the Chapters, vary from 13 to 31. The Cover design is simple, but colourful and pleasant. The book provides accurate, authoritative and relevant information/explanation on the various topics and the tools needed in practice. For the prospective or upcoming HR Managers, there is a lot to learn from the book to get better performance, without stress. Considering in an overall manner, it is a highly informative, effective and very useful book in this field, for studies for the self-learners, trainees & newcomers interested in seeking a career in HR management, trainers, working individuals and working HR professionals.
